Anal cancer is cancer of the cells lining the anus. While uncommon, anal cancer can be treated in similar ways to colorectal cancer.
Like all cancers, anal cancer occurs when a genentic mutation in the anal cells occurs, causing them to grow uncontrollably. The HPV virus is also linked to anal cancer.
Symptoms of anal cancer include pain and/or bleeding in and around the anus, itching, or growths in the anus.
Treatment of anal cancer can include surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.
